Yay! Dead pirates!

An American ship captain was freed unharmed Sunday in a swift firefight that killed three of the four Somali pirates who had been holding him for days in a lifeboat off the coast of Africa, the ship's owner said and a U.S. official said.

Any day that involves dead pirates is a good day. That the captain was rescued makes it that much better.

I know it seems cold to prioritize them that way, but making pirate corpses sends a signal that will hopefully work to discourage future hostage situations.

We just need a few more of these situations to turn out this way. If we keep paying ransoms, we only serve to encourage this kind of behavior.
