[Ben]: | Change means never having to pay your taxes. | Discuss This [1 comment so far] View Comments | Tom Daschle, Obama's pick for the Health and Human Services Secretary, has continued to demonstrate how seriously the new administration takes the issue of taxes. Between 2005 and 2007, Daschle "forgot" to pay $128,000.00 in taxes which he "remembered" as soon as he was nominated for a position within the new administration.
Daschle was simply trying to outdo Tim Geithner, Obama's pick for Secretary of the Treasury, who had failed to pay nearly $40,000.00 in taxes since 2001. I mean, if you can't trust a tax cheat to be the head of the IRS, who can you trust? Thankfully, Geithner "remembered" to pay his taxes as soon as he was nominated too.
On the other hand, Geithner demonstrated that while he is willing to cheat on his taxes, he has some good aspects. For one, he showed his support for Obama's ethics rules which prohibit lobbyists from taking part in the administration. He demonstrated this support by naming a former lobbyist as his chief of staff. He is not the only lobbyist serving the lobbyist-free administration.
Well, certainly the Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Representative Chuck "[Obama] will save the entire world" Rangel (D-NY) will be sure to work on more stringent regulations for tax cheats. Oh wait ...
Also, just to make sure that he changes the evil practices of the Bush Regime, Obama made sure to keep the Clinton policy of using rendition against suspected terrorists. But I thought this was a scary, evil program. You know ... the CIA goes in, abducts someone and then gives them to the Turks, or someone else willing to torture them. What happened to all the hubbub about that? Oh yeah, it's only a problem when the other guy is doing it. Just like so many Republicans didn't make a peep when their own boys were bloating the government, not too many leftists mind when a leftist does the same things that Bush did for years. |
