Finally the Florida Governor Charlie Crist righted an injustice. For those of you who don’t know about this case, Richard Paey was in a terrible car accident that seriously damaged his back. After a botched surgery to fix it Mr. Paey now lives in constant pain and is confined to a wheel chair. When he lived in New Jersey it wasn’t really a problem for him because his doctor was writing him perceptions to get the pain pills that he needs to make it through the day. It became a problem when he moved to Florida and his doctor stopped writing the prescriptions. So Mr. Paey did what he had to do and started getting multiple prescriptions so that he could have pain meds he needed. Needless to say he got caught and sent to prison for 25 years with no possibility of parole. Now if we can do the same for all the other victims of this country’s asinine war on drugs. As an interesting aside I heard somewhere that if Mr. Paey had gone into a pharmacy and took the pills at gunpoint, then went outside and gave them to school kids he would have gotten the same sentence or maybe it was a smaller sentence.
