If this were a sci-fi story, we'd all hop into our spaceships and head for the stars, or we'd rebel and throw rocks from Luna. But that story is not to be, and I have serious doubts that any private effort to escape terrestrial government through space travel would be allowed to succeed, even if we had the capability. |
Today (I'm writing this on Wednesday) I read this report from the Washington Post on the new National Space Policy.
I quote:
President Bush has signed a new National Space Policy that rejects future arms-control agreements that might limit U.S. flexibility in space and asserts a right to deny access to space to anyone "hostile to U.S. interests." |
I fully understand the reasons behind this decision, but I also feel certain it serves to bolster my position that existing Government will not tolerate escaping its control. Surely any such action would be "hostile to U.S. interests." |
